Welcome to the April Edition of Ostomy Canada Society’s E-Connects! I invite you to join me in the celebration of NSWOC Week (April 14-18) and National Volunteer Week (April 27-May 3). A special thank you to all NSWOCs and Volunteers involved and engaged with the Ostomy Canada Society, who provide the support necessary to ensure that every person living with an ostomy is able to Live Life to their Fullest!

Our April Edition of Ostomy Canada Society’s E-Connects continues to be filled with news, stories, event listings and care tips that I hope you will find both educational and valuable. Some of this month’s highlights include:

  • Canada Disability Benefit regulations that come into effect on May 15, 2025
  • Our Upcoming Events Calendar highlights all Chapter & Peer Support Group activity sessions taking place from now until the end of the month.

Our Step Up For Ostomy campaign launch is scheduled for the beginning of May! Watch for additional details in your inbox within the next few weeks highlighting how to Get Involved with your local community chapter or peer support group that may be coordinating a local Step Up For Ostomy community event this October. Become a Community Champion and create your own fundraising event page that supports an activity or event you may participate in. Support the efforts of others who have signed up to become a Community Champion to raise funding and support for ostomy awareness.

On August 16 & 17, Alex MacInnis will STEP UP and run an Ultra Marathon on consecutive days in Squamish, BC, to support the Ostomy Canada Society. More information will be provided on how YOU may pledge your support for every kilometre Alex completes over the two-day event. Like Alex, I have chosen to STEP UP and will be running the Manitoba Marathon on June 15 to raise funds and support for Ostomy Canada. HOW WILL YOU STEP UP?

Please consider supporting our upcoming Step Up For Ostomy campaign that allows Ostomy Canada to continue providing all the benefits and information resources such as our E-Connects newsletter, Ostomy Canada Magazine, Webinar sessions, and many other offered Peer Support resources – not just for today, but for generations to come.

On behalf of Ostomy Canada, I thank you for your ongoing and continued support, and continue to Live Life to the Fullest!

Warm regards,

Bryan Ezako
