On behalf of the Ostomy Canada Society Awards Committee, I am honoured to announce that the winner of the 2024 Maple Leaf Award is Eva Bordage of Ostomy Moncton, New Brunswick. The Maple Leaf Award, the most prestigious recognition presented by Ostomy Canada, honours individuals who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service for the benefit of Ostomy Canada and its members. Eva’s unwavering dedication to the ostomy community has made her an exemplary choice for this year’s award.

This award was presented during the 2024 Ostomy Canada Society Annual General Meeting on September 13, 2024.

Eva has been a pillar of support in the Ostomy Moncton community for over 30 years. A longtime ostomate herself, having lived with an ostomy for 55 years, Eva’s contributions span far and wide. From organizing the collection of unused ostomy products to be sent to Friends of Ostomates Worldwide, to creating and updating the Chapter newsletter, her work touches many lives. Despite the countless hours of service, Eva has always found time for each new ostomate, providing guidance, comfort, and hope.

Ostomy Moncton, which nominated Eva for this award, praised her for the leadership she has displayed over the years. Not only has she taken on multiple roles within the Chapter when there were no executive members available, but her dedication to attending every meeting, walk, and event has been a testament to her reliability and passion for the cause. Eva’s ability to adapt to change has also been remarkable, leading the Chapter through various updates that have expanded its visibility and support for new ostomates.

Known for her quiet, gentle nature and dry sense of humor, Eva is deeply cherished by those around her. As Ostomy Moncton reflected, she is a “heart of gold” and a “trustworthy” leader who has helped the Chapter flourish. Her impact is far-reaching, and her invaluable service has made her a deserving recipient of the Maple Leaf Award.

Congratulations to Eva Bordage for this incredible achievement, and thank you for your years of service, leadership, and compassion. You have truly made a lasting difference in the ostomy community.
